0357--THE ART OF RIGGING
Containing an EXPLANATION OF TERMS AND PHRASES and the PROGRESIVE METHOD OF RIGGING EXPRESSLY ADAPTED FOR SAILING SHIPS
by Capt. George Biddlecome, R.N.

From the Preface--This work was originally compiled for the use of the students in a Naval Academy and it is believed by modern experts to be the best manual ever produced on rigging the sailing ship. At the present time there is a constant demand from builders of ship models for a good handbook on rigging — comprehensive as to details and yet simple to understand. In the following pages it is believed that the model builder will find the solution of his problem. The PROGRESSIVE METHOD OF RIGGING worked out in this book teaches the beginner first to rig the bowsprit; then the lower rigging; then the topmasts up; and so on in the correct order. Reeving the gear and bending the sails are described in detail and for the benefit of the more advanced student there are tables giving the quantities and dimensions of the standing and running rigging of various types of vessels.
