MODEL SAILING BOATS
Their Design, Building and Sailing
by Edward W. Hobbs,
A.I.A., M.J.I.E., Vickers GoldMedallist

This book represents the accumulated knowledge of years spent in the designing, building and sailing of ship models both as a hobby and as a profession. The opening chapter reviews model yachting in general, and is followed by a chapter on the choice of a boat, with illustrations of thirty-seven different types. An explanation of the fundamenta1s of model naval architecture shows the enthusiast how to design a boat, and there are chapters on the practical work of construction and fitting out. The principles of sailing are dealt with and followed by detailed explanations of the principal classes of racing models used for Club and International sailing. Schooners have a chapter to themselves, while the concluding chapters are devoted to the building of old-time square-rigged ship models, including such famous ships as those of Cabot, Columbus, the Elizabethan mariners, the Victory and others, with outline diagrams of most of the recognized square-rigged ship types.
