| HOW TO BUILD 15 FIBERGLASS
BOATS by Charles Bell Although the amateur can build a serviceable boat of fiberglass, he needs the guidance that can be supplied only by an expert in order to construct a truly superior boat. In this volume, Charles Bell, one of America’s noted boatbuilders, sailors, and plastics engineers, provides this expert advice and offers step-by-step instructions on how to build fiberglass boats ranging from a ten-foot dinghy to a twenty-nine-foot cruiser. Clearly written and illustrated with detailed diagrams, the book provides careful, easy-to-follow instructions on all steps in the building process and presents much valuable information on maintenance and repair. An indispensable volume for the water sportsman and the “do-it-yourself” builder of boats, it is an authoritative work containing many helpful hints that can be found nowhere else. As Charles F. Chapman has written: “No one, in our opinion, is better qualified to supply this [expert] guidance than Charles Bell. With an educational background in engineering and naval architecture, and a love of boats known only to a practical boatman, he has pioneered in the development of successful fiberglass designs. . . . We are confident that this new volume will fill a definite need. We recommend it, without qualification, to anyone interested in the construction of a fiberglass boat.” About the Author--CHARLES BELL studied mechanical engineering and naval architecture at the University of Southern California. During World War II, he worked at Lockheed Aircraft as a preliminary design engineer and it was there that he was introduced to fiberglass reinforced plastics which were then being developed and tested for landing boats for the armed forces. Mr. Bell saw the possibilities in the use of these materials in peacetime and looked ahead to using them in the design and construction of small boats and yachts. After the war, he put his knowledge to work and has become the leading expert in the field. HOME PAGE |
