SEA-BOATS, OARS AND SAILS
by Conor OBrien
Illustrated with thirteen drawings by the author.
That master cruiser O'Brien, here looks at the smaller boat which is intended for offshore and cruising work. Those who like to cruise in small boats, especially the dinghy cruiser or others interested in voyaging in open boats or canoes, should not miss this truly excellent work. There are more good-sense comments and techniques in this book than can be counted. In fact, we would say that it is probably the best book on small-boat cruising that we have ever read. Its that good! Its the kind of book that the cruiser in the larger yacht should also have on board for those instances when he must use the dinghy and/or take short trips in the same. This is not a boat-building book, but OBrien still manages a couple of chapters on building; not of a specific craft (although a canvas canoe is included) but more an overall view of the proper approach to the task and good time-proven and even unique techniques to accomplish the end. Not to be missed! In the original publication, all the illustrations were bound at the back of the book as thirteen small full-page plates. We have chosen to pocket these instead so that the reader can take out the relevant plate and peruse it will reading the text.
