| THE BOOK OF KNOTS
by Tom Bowling This classic text, one of the earliest "source" books on knots was first printed in London in 1866. Who was Tom Bowling? We really don't know. The name appears in verse and song throughout the 18th century. This book is reputed to be an adaptation of an even earlier French text, translated into English and modified by "Tom Bowling." Our edition contains not only the original text descriptive of all the knots on the three plates, but an excellent "interpretation" by Lt Cdr Gordon J Perry MBE RN, a member of the International Guild of Knot Tyers. The interpretation corrects some errors in the original, relates the English adaptation to the French original and generally brings all of the great number of knots forward into a modern perspective. Our edition retains the three original plates, bound in much the same fold-out manner as were the originals, and as a special bonus we have combined them all into one very large knot chart (shown below) measuring 20" X 30" which is very suitable for framing.
