| LURE OF THE LABRADOR by Dr. Paul B. Sheldon and Members of his Crew Edited by Charles H. Vilas While many of us dream of sailing our boats to the South Seas or making a world circumnavigation, there is a dedicated minority for whom the North holds an irresistable lure. A few have satisfied this urge by cruising the Aleutians, Labrador and even Greenland. Generally this sort of cruise has been a one-time venture, to be relived before the fireplace on long winter nights for years afterward. Not so for Dr. and Mrs. Paul B. Sheldon. For them the quest to the North has been a continuing adventure for nearly a quarter of a century. They have to their credit no less than twenty-four cruises to Newfoundland, with seven of these continuing on north to Labrador in their thirty-seven foot Crocker ketch SEACREST. Each summer’s trip has added to a vast wealth of experience that they have accumulated over the years, which would have been impossible to acquire in only one season. As a result they really know the Labrador and its inhabitants. It is not only the unmatched grandeur of the scenery, but the warm friendships they have formed that has taken them back to endure risk, discomfort, tension and frustration again and again.
