THE SEA WOLF
by Jack London
What a stunning read! If you have never read Jack London, this may be the one to start with. Not only are the scenes aboard the Ghost maritimely impeccable, but the conflct between Humphrey Van Leyden and Wolf Larsen are as basic and as fundamental as water against fire. Was there ever a nautical character as massively complex as Wolf Larsen? Was there ever a fundamental metamorphosis as thorough and complete as that of Van Leyden's? We doubt it on both counts!
