| PRACTICAL BOAT SAILING
a Concise and Simple Treatise, on The Management of Small Boats and Yachts under all Conditions, with Explanatory Chapters on Ordinary Sea-Manoeuvres, and the use of Sails, Helm, and Anchor, and Advice as to what is Proper to be Done in Different Emergencies; supplemented by a Short Vocabulary of Nautical Terms by Douglas Frazar, formerly Fourth Officer of the Steamship "Atlantic", Master of the Bark "Maryland", and Commander of the Yacht "Fenimore Cooper" in the Northern Seas of china and Japan. While this little volume is concerned only with gaff rig, the principles of sailing and boat handling are the same for this rig, and that new fad, "Marconi", (a fad which is bound not to last in our opinion). The beginning sailor will find much of interest in this book including information on all the various aspects of handling small cruising yachts, as well as the description of a short cruise in a sloop to illustrate the points, and a glossary of terms. First published in 1879. HOME PAGE |
