| REAL SAILOR-SONGS
Collected and Edited by John Ashton, author of "A Century of Ballads," and "Romances of Chivalry,", &c., &c., with two hundred illustrations, London, 1891. Our reprint also includes a facsimile of an original sailor's hand-bill from the 18th century. These were sold to sailor's on the wharves and jetties of early London. These are only the words to the songs; there is no music here, but our small reprint is easy to carry to those chantey fests and enable you to startle your friends with some really obscure songs. The dedicated chantey singer will delight in this new source of material and find it fairly easy to put some of the songs to music of his/her own devising. There are 129 songs in this collection, divided into: Sea Fights; Press Gang; Disaster; Ashore; Love; and Miscellaneous. First published in 1894. HOME PAGE |
