He is the editor of one of our very favourite compilations, Cruising and Ocean Racing (in the Cruising Lore section of this page) and a highly innovative and thorough-going mariner. We looked for this book for a long while before finding it, and are pleased to be able to offer it here. This is an excellent book for the beginning navigator. It covers all the basics, in a readable and intelligent style and with most of the emphasis on coastal navigation. From the preface: "The scope of the section which treats of deep-sea position-fixing has been limited to the requirements of voyages made in small yachts. . . .That the bulk of this book should be devoted to the theory and practice of coastal navigation, and that only one chapter should deal with Deep Sea work, seems to be entirely logical.
